Eligibility Criteria
You can withdraw PF for medical emergencies such as:
- Treatment of self, spouse, children, or dependent parents.
- Major surgeries or hospitalization for 1 month or more.
- Specific conditions like cancer, heart ailments, etc.
You don’t need to complete a minimum service period or maintain a minimum balance for this withdrawal.
Steps to Claim PF for Medical Emergency
1.Log in to the EPFO Member Portal:
- Visit EPFO Member e-Sewa portal.
- Log in using your UAN (Universal Account Number) and password.
2.Verify Your KYC:
Ensure your Aadhaar, PAN, and bank account details are linked and verified with your UAN. This is mandatory for online withdrawal.
3.Submit a Claim Online:
- Go to the Online Services section and select Claim (Form-31, 19, 10C, and 10D).
- Verify your bank account by entering the last 4 digits.
- Click on Proceed for Online Claim.
- Choose PF Advance (Form-31) as the claim type.
- Select the reason for withdrawal as Illness (Medical Treatment).
4.Upload Supporting Documents (if required):
- Generally, for medical emergencies, no documents are required if you apply online. However, if requested, you may need to upload medical certificates or hospital bills.
5.Enter the Withdrawal Amount:
- Enter the amount required (up to the permissible limit).
- The withdrawal limit is 6 months’ basic salary + DA or the employee’s own contribution, whichever is less.
6.Submit the Request:
- After filling in all details, click on Submit Claim.
Processing Time
- Claims are usually processed within 5-10 working days.
- The amount will be directly credited to your bank account linked to your UAN.

1.Download Form-31 from the EPFO website.
2.Fill the form and attach necessary documents (medical certificate, hospital bills, etc.).
3.Submit it to your employer or the regional EPF office.
